Climate
change is a significant challenge that affects each of us in terms of
social and economic infrastructure as well as the natural environment.
Because heavy industry is a major source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions,
regulatory action to address industry and manufacturing emissions has
been underway for several decades.
However, a long term solution to emission reduction requires action in
every sector of our economy. The most significant GHG is carbon dioxide
(CO2), which represents approximately 77% of global GHG emissions*. Almost
one third of CO2 emissions result from electricity generation and heating.
Because electricity and heat are major budget areas for every organization
and produce an estimated 32% of global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions,
every business has both an economic and environmental stake in responding
to climate change.
How will your organization respond?
Many organizations want to respond to the issue of climate change, but
need guidance to understand the business case for taking action. Why should
your organization take action? What are the costs of taking action compared
to the cost of not taking action? Is your community enacting environmental
policy that will affect your operations? What are the challenges and opportunities
involved as your organization seeks to change its energy use, or products
and services used?
A FirmGreen LEED® certified consultant can help your business navigate
the process of determining a cost-effective plan for minimizing your environmental
impact wherever the company has operations. We can help you determine
the cost of taking action and the return on your investment. We can quantify
the short-term benefits for your organization as well as long term benefits.
Our approach starts with an audit of your existing GHG inventory, and
provides comprehensive guidance for managing and reducing your organization's
emissions over time. We can provide detailed reporting tools that will
identify major areas where your company can address emissions. We can
define a path for achieving LEED certification at your facility, and the
tangible returns for taking action. With a well-defined business case
in hand, you're able to make the case to your decision makers and stakeholders.
