Toshiba Classic Goes Green with FirmGreen™
NEWPORT BEACH, CA, February 12, 2007 — FirmGreen Energy, Inc. (FGE™)
is honored to be a sponsor of the Toshiba Classic, the only PGA Champions
Tour event in Orange County, which will be held March 5 – 11, 2007,
at Newport Beach Country Club. FGE will also donate renewable energy credits
(RECs) and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission offsets to help the tournament
be a carbon neutral event.
Since its first year of play in 1995, the Toshiba Classic has raised
more than $8.8 million for local charities in Orange County, with Hoag
Memorial Hospital Presbyterian being a major beneficiary.
Steve Wilburn, President and CEO of FGE and a longtime resident of Newport
Beach, stated, “FirmGreen Energy is very excited to be partnering
with the Toshiba Classic and we appreciate the important charitable contributions
it has made for our community. We also are proud to help make this a carbon
neutral event. Our whole community benefits from this green ripple effect
as we strive for a cleaner environment.”
Jeff Purser, the tournament director, stated: “We are pleased to
partner with FirmGreen to ensure that the Toshiba Classic is environmentally
responsible. With FirmGreen’s guidance and expertise, we are happy
to achieve this goal by utilizing green electricity and carbon offsets.”
To calculate emissions associated with the tournament, FGE reviewed all
event related activities from travel to venue lighting, and will donate
Green-e® certified credits to offset this carbon footprint –
expected to be more than 500 tons from vehicle emissions alone.
As a developer of alternative energy projects, FGE creates and markets
certified RECs and GHG emission offsets. Ordinarily, the company markets
the credits to support its continuing investment in renewable energy and
alternative fuels.
