FirmGreen’s E-waste Drive in Full Swing with Advanta WTT Pro League
Newport Beach, CA - July 17, 2009 – FirmGreen Energy, Inc., the Official Green Energy Company of the Advanta World TeamTennis (WTT) Pro League, is calling all tennis fans to bring their used cell phones and electronics to recycling events being held at WTT tennis venues during the month of July. FirmGreen (FGE) is working with Cell Phones for Soldiers to recycle used cell phones and PDAs. For other e-waste collection, FGE is teaming with Fresno-based Electronic Recyclers International – a national leader in electronics recycling.
The electronics recycling drive is well underway: WTT fans have already donated cell phones at events hosted by the St. Louis Aces, New York Buzz, Kansas City Explorers, Boston Lobsters and New York Sportimes teams. Philadelphia Freedoms fans showed great support for their combined cell phone and e-waste drive earlier this week. And there’s still time for tennis fans to support the collection effort!
- July 18th – Sacramento Capitals (phones plus e-waste recycling from 9a.m. – 2p.m.)
- July 18th – Springfield Lasers (cell phones/PDAs)
- July 19th – Newport Beach Breakers (phones plus e-waste recycling from 10a.m. – 4p.m.)
- July 21st – Washington, D.C. Kastles (cell phones/PDAs)
- July 22nd – Boston Lobsters (cell phones/PDAs)
- July 26th – WTT Pro League Finals at Washington D.C. Kastles venue (cell phones/PDAs)
In addition to the dates above, Kansas City Explorers, Newport Beach Breakers, New York Sportimes, New York Buzz, Springfield Lasers, and the Boston Lobsters will continue to collect phones and PDAs at every home match remaining to be held during their regular season. The drop-off location for each event is at the team’s stadium.
On July 22nd, the Boston Lobsters will present the phones collected during their season to the Bergquist family, founders of Cell Phones for Soldiers. The Bergquist’s will bring service men/women for this special night of recognition, and present them with prepaid phone cards on court. “We’re proud to show our support for U.S. soldiers, and to contribute to a worthy cause like Cell Phones for Soldiers,” says Bahar Uttam, owner of the Boston Lobsters.
FirmGreen has designed these events to provide residents with the opportunity to get rid of those old unwanted items, long since replaced and now gathering dust in storage or garages. “Each year, Californians replace hundreds of thousands of TVs, computers, CRT monitors and other electronic devices,” said John Shegerian, ERI’s Chairman and CEO. “Plus, they store literally millions more that are not used anymore in homes, garages and businesses. We applaud FirmGreen Energy and WTT for taking proactive steps to keep this e-waste, and all the environmentally harmful toxins it contains, out of California landfills!”
FGE is sponsoring a giveaway to promote the electronics recycling drive: participants 18 years and older can enter to win a trip for two to the 17th annual Advanta WTT Smash Hits. Smash Hits has raised more than $9 million for the Elton John AIDS Foundation and various local AIDS charities since 1993. This year’s event is taking place on December 8, 2009, at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
